The Royal Hospital Chelsea is looking for a dedicated Assistant Groundsperson to join our Grounds & Gardens Team.

About the Role:

You’ll play a key role in maintaining the lawns, sports grounds, and gardens across our historic site. From supporting cricket and football grounds to caring for the bowls green and glasshouse, this is a varied and hands-on role ideal for someone with a strong work ethic and a love for the outdoors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • General lawn maintenance and turf care.
  • Support for maintaining the cricket, football, and tennis facilities in the absence of the Groundsman.
  • Occasional weekend cover for cricket matches.
  • Maintenance of the bowls green and support in the glasshouse.
  • Skilled horticultural tasks including pruning, planting, and aftercare.
  • Leaf clearing, and site preparation.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Experience in grounds maintenance and horticultural techniques.
  • Skilled in using ride-on and pedestrian mowers, handheld and backpack machinery.
  • Basic machine maintenance knowledge.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to interact with the public.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • NVQ Level 2 in Horticulture or Groundskeeping (or equivalent).
  • Certificates in safe use of compact tractors, ride-on mowers, and chemical spraying (PA1/6A).
